Programme overview

A weekend out to the golden dunes of Merzouga: nights in a 4★ hotel, a camel ride to the top of the dunes for sunset, a visit to Rissani and its fossil exhibition, date and camel-milk cooperatives in Erfoud, and the Oulad Chaker oasis on the way back.

Day by day

1. Day 1 — Friday

   Evening departure

   Departure from Casablanca at 19:00 outside Casa-Voyageurs, and from Rabat at 21:00 from Rabat-Ville. Dinner at 23:00 in Allal El Bahraoui.

2. Day 2 — Saturday

   The Merzouga dunes

   Arrival at 07:30 in Ain Aatti and a free breakfast, with time to buy a Saharan shawl and local gifts. Check in at the hotel at 10:00, rooms allocated, rest and pool. At 13:00, on to Rissani with a stop at the fossil exhibition and a free lunch (madfouna). At 15:00, out to the Merzouga desert and the local herbalist, then the camel ride up to the top of the dunes for sunset. Back to the hotel, dinner and an evening of entertainment.

3. Day 3 — Sunday

   Erfoud & the journey home

   Up at 07:00 and breakfast at the hotel at 08:00. Stops at the date cooperative next door in Erfoud, at the camel cooperative for camel milk, then at the Oulad Chaker oasis for photographs. Free lunch at 14:30 and the return leg from 16:00, reaching Rabat at 21:00 and Casablanca at 22:30.
